Tips for Styling Yourself on a Budget

For those of us who like to keep up with the latest fashion trends, trying to stay in style can often seem prohibitively expensive. Fortunately, there is a way to keep up with today’s styles without having to break the bank. Here are some great ways to style yourself while still remaining within a limited budget.

Find Inspiration with the Latest Trends

Before you purchase the latest, trendy fashion piece, take a look at what’s hot right now and consider what inspires you. Take a look at the street style of your favourite celebrities and influencers, and see what you can find online from the latest fashion brands. If you see an item that takes your fancy but the price is too high, explore other brands that offer similar pieces for a lower cost. Otherwise, there are a number of smart ways to budget for a specific item.

Rearrange Your Existing Wardrobe

Take a look at your existing wardrobe and arrange items according to your personal style. Consider creating a mini wardrobe that consists of your most commonly worn clothes as well as accessories and accents that add a bit of flair to your individual look. Perhaps make several mini wardrobes for seasonal outfits, or organise your items based on type, colour and fabric. This will help you better understand your style and what you have, which helps reduce the risk of repurchasing items and spending unnecessarily.

Sell Unneeded Items

If you have your eye on an expensive piece of fashion, consider what clothing you currently have and what you would be happy to sell off. Chances are there are items in your wardrobe that you don’t wear, either because it was an impulse buy or it simply doesn’t suit your style anymore. Fortunately, there’s almost always someone out there who will be glad to purchase one of these items, and some may fetch a good price. Consider expanding this to other items in the household that are no longer needed but may fetch a high price when sold second-hand.

Plan Your Outfits in Advance

Before you go and make that purchase, consider how the item will look on you and match your style. Perhaps aim for clothing items that offer some versatility that can be paired with several outfits. For example, a shirt or skirt that looks great in summer but can be paired with a coat, pants or leggings in winter. The more versatile
your clothing items, the less you need to spend on individual outfits.

Avoid Impulse Purchases

Finally, avoid the urge to purchase the latest fashion pieces without considering if they are right for you. This risks you blowing your budget and ending up with a wardrobe full of items that looked good at the time but were never actually worn. Instead, plan your outfits carefully and consider cheaper brands, sale items and secondhand
or vintage items rather than paying full price. By avoiding the urge to just spend money on whatever takes your fancy, you can instead focus on the outfits you know will suit you and add flair.
