Imagine you could earn extra cash by helping other people find jobs. Kind of sounds like instant karma in the best way possible, right?
Well, this is exactly what Indeed will help you do with their ingenious Job Spotter app.
Here’s a quick breakdown of everything you should know:
Job Spotter is an app that pays users take and upload photos of ‘Help Wanted’ signs they pass on the street.
Available for download on Apple and Android devices, the app description reads:
“Indeed Job Spotter is an awesome way to explore your community and earn redeemable points, all in the name of helping local businesses. If you spot a hiring sign, take a picture of it and the storefront, and submit it to Indeed Job Spotter.”
The whole idea is to crowdsource local job ads and introduce them to a wider audience by posting an electronic version on the Indeed website.
Since launching in 2016, the app has gained a PokémonGo-type popularity with users spending hours searching for obscures recruitment posters in all corners of the UK.
Anyone who owns a smartphone and is over 18 can sign up for the Job Spotter app for free and start earning.
Users receive a certain number of points – one point equals one penny – for each upload, which can later be converted into money on an Amazon gift card.
Points range between 5 and 150 per post, with the amount depending greatly on the type of sign you find.
For signs that are really unusual and ‘off the beaten track’ (think a hand-written sign for a dog groomer in Broughton), you’ll typically receive more points than for signs that are relatively commonplace and easy to find (i.e. a sign advertising vacancies at Dunkin’ Donut on a busy London intersection).
Check out examples of posts and their point allocation on the Job Spotter website.
Well, this depends entirely on how much time you dedicate to finding ‘help wanted’ signs and how obscure they are.
So, the trick is obviously to veer off the well-trodden paths where other job spotters may be lurking too and venture into quieter areas. Which could actually help discover parts of your city (or country, for that matter) that you never even dreamed of exploring.
However, for a clearer idea of the amounts people have been earning over the past year, here are two case studies to refer to:
In June, B from Boost my Budget did a post about her personal experience with Job Spotter. She had only been using it for a week and had already managed to earn £10.62.
“My lowest earner was a generic sign in the Body Shop (5 points) and my highest was an ad for a delivery driver in a small local pizza shop (98 points). My average is probably around 80 points.”
“In my first day on this app I earned nearly £3,” she says.

“I live in London and find the app very addictive. I like to go on walks to different areas finding jobs which gets me out of the house as well as making money. When it was first launched, I spent one hour walking around Tooting and managed to make over £30,” writes Charlotte from LottyEarns.
When posting about it in earlier this year, she had only been using it for a short while and had already earned £150.

Is it really worth doing this in 2022 or not? Please, just for sure!
It’s worth a go
Seems a good idea and you might spot something you’d like to do yourself.
