Money Giveaway: The cost of living crisis is really getting people down now. With a record number of people taking on second jobs and people frantically googling ‘quick ways to make cash’, we at MoneyMagpie have again decided to put our hand in our pocket and offer some help to readers.
Last year we offered you all a chance to get your hands on a no strings attached free £5 and over 300 of you entered.
Therefore we are again offering 20 readers £5. There are no strings attached at all. Simply comment on the article with what you would spend the fiver on, and then in two weeks, 20 people will be selected to win the money.
MoneyMagpie founder Jasmine Birtles says: ‘It really doesn’t feel much in the greater scheme of things, but if it helps a few people then we are more than happy to step in. We have had a record number of people writing in and asking us how to access quick cash, and in reality there aren’t many ways that are safe to the consumer. Therefore we just wanted to offer them a chance. We are strongly against gambling so didn’t want our readers to go there, therefore it’s simply cash.’
So, as stated above, for your chance to get your hands on a fiver, just answer ‘what would you spend an extra fiver on this month?’ in the comments below. The comments will close at midnight on August 1, 2023.
We will notify the winners on August 2, 2023.
Good luck. We look forward to hearing your answers.
My Mum who has mobility issues and I can pay towards getting her out for a little treat at the Animal Care cafe up the road as she loved it when I used to take her there.
I’d buy a beautiful bunch of flowers for a lovely treat to brighten up my house during this great British (rainy) summer!
I’d go and see the Barbie movie!
I would like to give it to a cat sanctuary I support. They depend entirely on public donations.
I would by my birthday sushi feast with it. (Prefer this treat rather than cake). It would feel like an extra special treat if someone else was paying for it rather than buying it for myself and the budget is really tight.
I would visit my local cafe, which is based on a farm. All profits from the cafe go towards the animal rescue charity, also based there, providing food, shelter and rehabilitation.
Amazingly their breakfast costs £4.95.
Extra 5p change can go in their donation box.
Money well spent !

Spend it at Gregg’s hahaha
I’d spend £2 on some flowers for my late mother’s grave, and donate £3 to Marie Curie who cared for her. I used to be a collector for Marie Curie but health problems now prevent me. The cost of living crisis and energy bills have meant I’ve seldom been able to afford more than the very occasional £1 bunch of daffodils. If I can sell my portable camping chair then I’d have an extra £5 and can split it 50/50 between Marie Curie and 5 bunches of daffodils for mum’s grave. She’d like that.
Treat myself to something in the supermarket I can not usually get, such as strawberries or avocado.
