You may have heard ‘Gen-Z’, ‘Millennial’ and the like being thrown around in recent years. The media often refer to young people using these terms, grouping those of a certain age together. There are often negative connotations of young people being zombies – obsessed with the internet, glued to their phones, broke and lazy.
But realistically, these traits don’t apply to everyone in the Gen-Z (born 1997-2013) and Millennial (born 1981-1996) age groups. Similarly, there are people in other generations who fit these stereotypes.
I’m Izzy, a 20-something Gen-Z, and this is my new column, The Gen-Z Journal. Each month, I’ll discuss everything Gen-Z – from my day-to-day survival as a single renter in a cost-of-living crisis, how I budget, buying a house, dating, and more.
I’m here to give a real, raw account of the life of a Gen-Z gal living her life. And I hope to inspire and bring comfort to others my age when it comes to finances. We are all in this together!
I am no expert – but two years at MoneyMagpie as a writer and social media manager has taught me plenty. I’m learning everyday, and I hope you will join me in my ventures.
So, send this to all the youngsters you know. Let’s navigate life together.
