Hi,
I’ve just been furloughed by work, but I work for an events company and have no idea when or if I will have work again as the industry has been severely affected. I’m worried that I’ll be made redundant in the near future.
April 13, 2020 at 11:20 #150710Sam SmithParticipantHi Hannah, as your furloughed will you be receiving 80% of your salary?
April 17, 2020 at 09:00 #150817HannahParticipantHi Sam, I should be receiving 80% of my pay but haven’t had any updates yet on when I will be paid. I only started the job a few months before COVID-19 hit so I’m just worried that when it all calms down I’ll be made redundant or lose my job because the events company will be low on funds and have a lack of work so they won’t need me.
April 18, 2020 at 19:19 #150856StanParticipantDoes anyone know what those of us waiting until June can do to get by? I imagine Universal Credit is out of the question as we’re still technically employed.
April 20, 2020 at 09:27 #150867AmyParticipantI know you can apply for credit card and loan freezes on repayments – https://www.moneymagpie.com/messageboards/topic/credit-card-freeze

April 23, 2020 at 09:43 #151003EllieParticipantI’ve been furloughed but wondering if I take on extra freelance work to supplement my income, will I then have to submit my own tax evaluation at the end of the tax year? I’ve never had to do one before so quite unsure.
May 3, 2020 at 06:27 #151163AileenParticipantCan an Employer take you of Furlough pay for a week, pay you Holiday pay then put you back on Furlough? We have been on Furlough for 6 weeks and have had a letter informing us week begining 18th May will be paid Holiday pay, they will take 5 days of our Holiday entitlment for the year.
May 18, 2020 at 12:49 #151384Sunnii-ElleParticipantThe furlough scheme was extended last week to October, but I’m worried about finding a new job during this time. Are other people also looking or hoping to get back to their previous jobs?
May 19, 2020 at 13:52 #151425AileenParticipantI am hoping to be back to work at the beginning of June, we have had a letter from them, and they said they want everyone back in by End of June.
June 5, 2020 at 14:49 #151774EmmaModeratorHi there, it’s Emma from Charles Russell Speechlys.
Employees can request to take holiday during furlough and employers can require employees to take accrued holiday during furlough, but in order not to undermine the health benefits of taking holiday the amount of holiday taken during furlough should be proportionate to what has achieved.
Employees should however be paid at their normal rate during holiday when on furlough. If your employer required you to take 5 days holiday during furlough, your furlough would not have been broken and you should have been paid normal pay for that holiday period.

does that mean they take a whole five days holiday off you so you miss out? if that’s so then that’s horrible, its not your fault covid19 appeared and caused havoc. I don’t work so I don’t know the answer but id imagine that they cant do that, if they can then there just not fair taking your holidays away.
June 23, 2020 at 11:43 #152120EmmaModeratorHi – employees are able to take holiday during furlough. This means that the employees will still be on furlough, but their pay will be paid at normal rate rather than the furlough rate. Employers should be taking a proportionate approach to the amount of holiday that employees take during furlough (e.g. as a rule of thumb, to take the holiday that accrues during the furlough period and not all of their annual entitlement) to avoid a mass build up of holiday which could make managing the workforce and demand when furlough ends difficult.
June 24, 2020 at 06:12 #152155AileenParticipantThanks everyone, Claire yes they took 5 days off my allowance and paid me at the current National Minimum wage, i just hope I am back to work soon, and they don’t make us use any more days.
