Over 1.2million hours of FREE Fun Football will be available for children of all abilities aged 5-11.

The McDonald’s Fun Football programme is now available in over 80% of lower-socio urban areas allowing more families to access free football than ever before.

NEW Pan-Disability and Visual Impairment sessions launch to tackle a third of disabled children currently missing out on the benefits of sport.

London, Wednesday 13th, March 2024 – McDonald’s Fun Football is back and more accessible than ever, offering thousands of children the chance to play football for free this Spring. The first wave of 2024 will see a total of 1.2 million hours of FREE football coaching delivered by FA qualified coaches in over 1,500 locations across the UK.

Research shows that over half (56%) of children from lower-socio economic backgrounds are inactive due to the associated costs that surround attending sport activities. As a result, the Fun Football programme has adjusted its centre locations to ensure it can offer over 80% of lower-socio urban areas easy access to Fun Football.

In addition, Pan-Disability and Visual Impairment sessions will be offered to families up and down the country. The free disability football provision is part of Fun Football’s ongoing goal to ensure football is made accessible to all after research, led by BBC Children in Need and Sporting People, identified that nearly a third (29%) of disabled children are currently missing out on the benefits of sport.

Earlier this year over 100 coaches went through bespoke training modules as part of a pioneering coaching development programme developed in collaboration with BBC Children in Need, British Blind Sport, Kick It Out and England Futsal, to ensure Fun Football coaches can welcome any child, and adapt sessions accordingly.

Removing the barriers associated to attending sessions is vital and that’s why McDonald’s Fun Football is so important to the future of the game. From introducing first-of-its-kind coaching development so more coaches can support children from any background to looking at how sessions can be as close as possible to families that need it the most. The programme is opening doors to more children to enjoy football and that can only be a good thing.”  Please see Jude’s work with the programme HERE.
