Hello , I remember that first night my folks dropped me off at Uni, I sat on my bed with a bottle of wine, waiting nervously for my new housemates to arrive. I was so nervous and secretly just wanted to go to my parents hotel on Cardiff Bay and
plead with them to stay with me. Sad but true. In truth, going to uni can feel hugely scary. I was 300 miles from my parents and felt very alone. I actually worked through my time at university too, I worked in a series of jobs: book shop, waitress, barmaid, I even worked in marketing for a bit. This meant I didn't actually need a loan and while hard, I am so pleased I don't have that huge shadow of debt hanging over me. So,
if you have any chance not to get one... that would be my first tip. I also used to love a big batch cook. I was really shocked by how much my contempories spent on food thinking it was cheap... ready meals ain't that cost effective, kids. I would make big vats of soup and buy vegetables one at a time on the market. This saved me so much money and waste. |

Most importantly, you are not at Uni/College for long, it passes in a flash. So enjoy your time. The friendships you make will last a lifetime and the camaraderie of shared skintness does make it all the better. We have compiled some valuable life lessons from people who have all experienced University - so this is our
guide: from ex students to current ones. We pass on this baton of frugal living and hope one day you will do the same for the next generation. Vicky Parry Head of Content and Creative at MoneyMagpie.com xxx |
